Vision y Compromise

Towards a Dignified and Healthy Life

Visión y Compromiso, in collaboration with the Comprehensive Heart Failure Program at UC Davis Health, is implementing the Vida Sana, Corazón Bailando research project in the Kern County area. This project combines our Bailoterapia program with the Me Veo Bien, Me Siento Bien curriculum, promoting a comprehensive approach to health that includes nutrition, physical activity, and emotional health management.

💃Vida Sana, Corazón Bailando will evaluate how participation in a holistic exercise and wellness program impacts participants’ cardiovascular health and stress levels. The goal is to prevent cardiovascular diseases and pay attention to risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Starting January 23, two Bailoterapia instructors trained in obtaining capillary blood through a small finger prick will guide 20 participants through 10 weekly sessions. Promotoras will support participants, who will receive tools to improve their well-being.

To understand the real impact on their health, participants will track measurements at the beginning and end of the program, including blood pressure, cholesterol, an average of blood sugar levels over the previous three months (A1C), weight, and waist measurement. These measurements are key in the research project to show how small changes in diet, exercise, and stress management affect cardiovascular health and stress levels in people. Stress, in particular, can raise blood pressure, increase blood sugar levels, and lead to the accumulation of abdominal fat. That’s what differentiates this research project. It supports physical activity and teaches tools to reduce stress and improve emotional well-being.

Vida Sana, Corazón Bailando seeks to demonstrate the effectiveness of community prevention programs in cardiovascular health, such as Bailoterapia and the Me Veo Bien, Me Siento Bien curriculum, and expanding it to other regions as accessible tools for self-care. We trust that the results will generate valuable evidence for clinics, hospitals, and medical services to integrate this model as a viable, culturally and linguistically relevant option for our communities.

At Visión y Compromiso, we continue to work towards a dignified and healthy life. Our impact is greater when we collaborate with institutions that wholeheartedly support community wellness. ❤️Gracias, de corazón, Comprehensive Heart Failure Program at UC Davis Health!
